Fred raised his hands in the universal sign for "I surrender."
Unfortunately for Fred this was universal only for humans, dwarves and a
few species of dryad. He was facing some unknown kind of Race who -- in
their culture and understanding -- saw Fred's raising of arms as
intent of attack. The creatures reacted as one, they too raised their
hands!
Fred was dumbfounded. they want to surrender too?!? Fred was also dumb. At least at times...but who's to blame the guy... he's a colloquial knight trained by colloquial duke's men in turn raised within the bounds of a unified Kingdom. What did they know about other Races? Besides, from Allarian cultural standards, other Races were either Evil, Ignorant, Below Contempt, or Good Only for Work in the barley fields. Like I said, Fred was not the most worldly of men. Fred was so confused, however, that he lowered his arms. Besides, after so much treading water in metal armor, he was tired! This in turn caused confusion in the ranks of the creatures. In their eyes this man was now no longer threatening attack! And so they lowered their arms. Then one of them, the one holding the morningstar who had an incredibly large nose on his incredibly ugly face (from Allarian standards), approached Fred. He?... she?... it?... spoke. But it was all gobbledegook to Fred who only knew the King's Tongue, Common, and his Family's Battle Code. "Huh?" said Fred. On saying this, the creature with the morningstar backed off and the others in the group took two steps back. Their beady eyes widened and their noses began to twitch rather oddly (from an Allarian point of view).
