As night fell, Andrea felt tired, hungry, and sore. She hadn't had a
decent meal in a week, since she'd left the Duchy of Croix, and hadn't
had anything to eat at all this day. This was not how she'd imagined
her life of adventure playing out. She'd wanted to become a mighty,
fearless adventurer, like Astra, who'd overwhelm everything in her
path--and perhaps win the heart of a handsome, noble knight in the
process. She had no idea that it would be this unglamorous, and
was cursing herself for her stupidity.
She tried to keep herself awake for a while with the songs her nursemaid had taught her. She had told her that there was power in them, if Andrea knew how to use it. Andrea didn't know about that, but she often found that they helped her keep a clear head. As she sang, she felt more detatched from the jarring bumps of the cart. Yet sleep still began to creep over her. She almost wished she were back in her heraldry lessons. She had thought at the time that they were the worst thing she could possibly live through. If only she'd been right. With that, she finally closed her eyes and found she couldn't open them. When she awoke, she found that
