Second Attempt

Astra groaned as loudly as she could, and the guard reappeared. She cried: "I feel worse! And there's not really much that Fred can do to help me from the next cell."

The guard considered.

1. "I could put him in with you so that he could examine you properly," he said. Since that would involve the guard having to open the door to her cell, it would do. "All right," she said.
2. "All right, I'll come in and look at you," the guard said. Perfect!
3. "Take your clothes off, and I'll examine you from outside the cell," the guard offered. No good at all!
4. Before the man could say anything, Fred made another helpful suggestion.
