"Maybe," Astra said. "Fortunately the guards who arrested us were too gentlemanly to search me, so I've still got my dagger." [17376]

She went on: "So long as they've only left one man to look after the cells, it should be fairly straightforward. I'll get him to come into my cell on some pretext. I'll overpower him, steal his keys, and lock him in the cell. Then I'll let you out."

"Getting out of the cells is one thing, but getting clean away is likely to be much more difficult," Fred pointed out. "It's an awfully long way to the nearest border."

"I know, but let's take one thing at a time. Now, what ruse should I try to get the guard to come into the cell? There's the old sudden illness trick, where I pretend that I'm in agony. Or there's the helpless female who's seen a mouse in the pile of hay in the corner of the cell and screams her head off. Or of course there's the sexual come-on."
