"Q!" snarled Captain Picard. "Blah, blah, blah." said the entity. "Hush now, we don't have much time. A Rogue Q is in the farmhouse you seem to be seeing, strange, I see a missile silo, and he is going to eat the Milky Way Galaxy in about ten hours. If you can sneak in, the energy patterns I've already infused you with just might stop him." Torres crossed her arms. "How can we stop a Q?" "Oh, use that ridged skull of yours." Q said, looking over his shoulder. "Do you notice those awful Klingonese fire ants just by eyes alone?" "No, they only live in the red desert sands. They blend right in." "Exactly! You're ants to us, really. We do not notice you unless we are really looking. I've just made you poisonous ants, instead of agonizing like the fire ants. Did you know some of Torres' relatives run barefoot on the red sands on purpose? Biologicals are crazy." Q vanishes, silently and without his usual flash of light. And astonishingly enough, Ensign Barel shows up. Also a Voyager crewman, also a cross-breed like Torres, Barel was half-human and half-Arfellian. Technically, genetically, 94 percent human but the six percent gave him a holographic memory. "Why me?" said Barel after the group had retreated to a spot behind some boulders.. "Why couldn't Q manifest someone with much more cosmic experience, like Tuvok or Janeway?" "You were with us when we invaded the Q Continium during the Civil War." "True." said Barel. "I had a huge migraine during my entire time there, and weeks after. The Doctor theorized it was my increased memory capacity not processing the illusions of the Q realm as well as everyone else. Before we left the realm I had asked Q to alleviate the pain if possible but he simply gave me a canine tail for a week." Barel looked abashed. "I still feel the urge to wag when I get happy." Picard looked wary. "The fact that only Barel has shown up seems to indicate that only Barel was available. It's obvious that Q, as usual, is not telling us everything. Does this Rogue Q have the other Voyager crewmen prisoner?"
