Once Andrea had picked the object up, she soon realised that it was a
book, though very different from the ones that she was used to. Instead of
having stiff board covers, it had ones of some limp material. The paper
was very different to the parchment pages that she was familiar with, too.
But perhaps the strangest thing was the writing on the pages. Instead of
having been handwritten with a quill pen, this writing was so regular in
its nature that it looked as though it had been produced by some sort of
machine rather than by a scribe. And each letter was separate rather than
running into the next.
Because it was so unfamiliar, Andrea had some difficulty in reading it at first, but before long she grew accustomed to the strange letters. On the front cover of the book it said:
