Of course, once we reached that proverbial wretched hive of scum and
villainy, Weston II, things got interesting again... My butt was aching, my legs were numb, my eyes were sore and screaming for new scenary; anything but the endless black! And people wondered why many smugglers tended to have bigger waistlines than most! But we were almost there. We were nearing the planet and I was just about to prepare for orbit when the sensors picked up the presence of several hundred WSN warships! It was a blockade! How was I going to get past half of the Westonian Armada!? It was too late to turn tail and run, so I continued on course, trying not to look too suspicious. As expected, I was hailed by an automated voice..."Greetings! Welcome to Weston II! As you may have already noticed, there will be a slight delay in regular orbiting procedures today and we apologize for any inconvenience. Due to recent terrorist activities in the region, a blockade has been established around the planet by order of the sovereign Imperial Space Authority. Your ship will be boarded and inspected by certified officials of the Westonian Space Navy. Once you are cleared, you may proceed onward to your desired port of entry. We appreciate your patience and full cooperation! Have a nice day!" This was followed by some corny orchestra music, the theme song of the WSN. Horrible stuff. Well, there was no way around this one! I frantically erased any incriminating files in the Vellus's databanks and sealed off the cleverly concealed cargo holds which contained my illegal goods. At the moment, though, the shipment of Farscape whiskey was the least of my concerns. It looked like this Lady of Dolmen was going to land me in a whole heap of trouble! Fate had definetly dealt me a hand, but I was beginning to wonder whether it was a winning one or not. This Lady was a wildcard...At the time, Aresia was confining herself to her cramped quarters, the place she had spent most of the voyage. Besides showing what could have been taken as gratitude after the run-in with the Indefatigable, she hadn't attempted any further communication. After that she had simply ignored me. Bitch. I was about to alert her to our present situation, when she spared me the trouble and entered the bridge."Well, well, well," I said, a grin crossing the features of my face. "Look who finally decided to crawl out of their hiding spot? Sleep well, m'Lady? I hope so, because in a few minutes we're going to be at the mercy of the Westonians. See all those little dots on this screen? That means trouble. I'm sure you haven't any idea as to why the WSN is blockading Weston II, would you? It wouldn't have anything to do with a certain 'diplomatic meeting' of yours, would it?" She snooted in response. "You will allow me to handle the situation, Captain," she demanded. "When we reach the planet you will be rewarded for your assistance, which has been greatly appreciated." Nope! Not this time! Since she had held me at sword point a few days back, I had taken the opportunity to update several of the Vellus's security mechanisms. With a simple tap of my foot on the floor beneath the control panels, the mechanisms were activated."Don't make another move," I told her. "Unless you want to know what 700,000 volts at g-wave impulses searing through your body feels like, in which case, be my guest, m'Lady. Even that micromesh armor you’re sporting wont protect you..." She laughed! What nerve! 700,000 volts would stop anyone's heart, if not for the g-waves! Regardless of the g-waves, it was still enough to fry the living shit out of any regular human. She just stood there, showing no concern, and giggling away like I had told one of my favorite dirty tavern-jokes! "I'm glad you find it amusing," I continued, rather annoyed by her lack of concern, "because I don't. You must have a very twisted sense of humor. The Westonian Armada is hardly a laughing matter, regardless of who you are. That Soulsword won't do a thing for you right now and, to be honest, if it comes down to it I will hand you over to the authorities before I risk my own butt, got it!?"She quit laughing, but she was still grinning widely. She focused her eyes on me, and I felt a chill go down my back. Those piercing blue eyes...I could...get lost in them...for eons! They were as deep as the deepest black holes, and as bright as the brightest super-novas! A sudden sense of peace swept over my being; a gentle, warm feeling. Immediately I forgot what I had been so worked up about. And anyways, none of that mattered now! It all seemed so trivial! Everything was all right! Everything was fine! "The controls are yours," I said, my voice sounding monotone. "I think I'll go stand in the corner over there, so as not to disturb you."Aresia gave me a nod. "That's more like it! Now, be extra quiet and I'll have a reward for you when this is all over, all right? That's a good boy, to the corner with you." What a wise woman! Boy, I was sure glad I had brought her along! She'd know how to handle the situation, and the Vellus was now in much more capable hands. Why had I ever doubted her!? All of that seemed like ages ago, when I had been young and foolish. But now I knew the truth! Everything was just fine! Fine! Just fine! Aresia took over the controls and deactivated the security system. How had she known about it!? Well, of course she had known! She was just so damn smart! Maybe I'd learn a thing or two by watching her! But I'd have to be extra quiet! I couldn't disturb her during this crucial time, and she had promised me a reward if I was a good boy! Oh, goody! A reward!
