"News just in! The Westonian Navy Ship Indefatigable has been
declared missing, presumed lost. The last recorded transmission from the
Indefatigable, from two days ago, stated that they had intercepted
a freighter who they
suspected to be carrying an illegal cargo. Without warning, the freighter
started firing at them. They returned fire, damaging the vessel. Just then
several loud explosions could be heard and the transmission is cut off at
this point." I turned off the news and just stared at the blank screen. So the Indefatigable had been destroyed by the alien ship that had mysteriously come to my aid. I wasn't surprised they made it look like I was the aggressor. The authorities would no doubt be looking for a damaged freighter that had landed during the last few days. They'll find the Astra, still under repair. There was no possible way the Astra could have destroyed the Indefatigable. They'll find that out, but I was sure they'd find a way to twist it around. Not that anyone was going to argue with them. I didn't sleep at all well that night, fully expecting that at any moment the door to my room would come crashing down and I would be surrounded by armed police. I needn't have worried. There was no love lost between the repair yards and the local authorities, though there were those that would have turned me in if bribed. Fortunately for me I had chosen one that didn't, though I kept on my guard as I wondered the streets of Belgrun, Weston II's capital. Belgrun, as could be said of any major city, had a thriving criminal underworld, some of the members of which were not afraid to be seen in daylight. I heard a shout. One of them had just stolen a young lady's bag.
