I knew that I was a dead man, but since negotiation clearly wasn't an
option all I could do was to attempt to fight. I tried to evade the
torpedoes, hoped my shields would hold for those I couldn't dodge, and
that I might get lucky with my gun - not more than a pop-gun compared to
my opponent's armament.
I figured that I was going die without ever knowing the reason. Was Weston II really allowing one of its warships to fire on a merchantman, was the captain exceeding his authority, or could the ship be a ringer and not really the WSN ship Indefatigable after all? The first two possibilities seemed very unlikely, but the third one seemed less likely still. It's not easy to evade homing torpedoes, and two out of the three that were incoming hit the ship. My shields just held, fortunately. The next salvo, which would probably be heading my way in a minute or so, would almost certainly put an end to the Princess Astra, though.
