How to Deal with Mark?

He tries to clear his mind, and figure out what to do. He doesn't want to hurt Mark, but he certainly doesn't want to go along with him. He has to do this gently. After a moment he comes up with a response.

"I don't know, Mark," he says. "I mean... this is all too sudden! Please, just.. give me some time to react to this."

"But we don't have time!" Mark says. "Karen said you two were going to run away soon. If you do... if you do how can we be together? That's why I had to tell you now. Please, Alyssa... I love you so much. I... always have. I couldn't imagine living without you."

The Seeker realizes how deeply Mark must feel for Alyssa. He's in trouble. He can't tell Mark he loes him, of course, but if he doesn't... Mark will be crushed. He doesn't want to hurt him, but he can't think of any other way. Maybe he can find a way to stall for time.

The Seeker realizes that he's in a dangerous position. He didn't know about Mark's love for Alyssa until now, so he doesn't know how Alyssa originally responded. His reaction could alter the future of the storyline irreversibly.

That is, of course, if this is the original storyline. Until now he has assumed he is currently in the original New Amazon storyline, but he remembers that reality has been shifting strangely, and he can't be sure that this isn't a different reality. He hasn't seen anything to make him believe that he's in another reality, but somehow this doesn't seem to fit with the original storyline.

He tries to think. What would the real Alyssa do? Truthfully, she would probably be afraid to make a decision. She would be afraid to hurt Mark, but at the same time she would be afraid to anger Karen.

Then he realizes that that's his answer. "I don't want to hurt Karen, Mark. She loves you; I don't want to take that away from her."

"But I don't love her, Alyssa," Mark says. "I never did. I love you."

"I know," The Seeker says. Please, just give me some time to think about it. Maybe... maybe I can prepare her for the news."

Mark looks at The Seeker. Then...

1. ...Karen walks in.
