The Seeker Is Horrified By This Newest Development

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20562

The Seeker slowly comes to awareness. He opens his eyes and sees an unfamiliar ceiling. At first he's disoriented, but then he remembers what just happened. Boy, was that uncomfortable.

He realizes that he got Mark's body killed. So... Mark is dead? And what will happen to Karen? He feels sick.

Then it strikes him that he's in a new body. He starts to panic. Who is he now? Where is he? What is he?

He seems to be lying in bed now. As he pushes himself up, he notices that his body feels odd. Strangely proportioned.

No. No, it couldn't be. Could it? The sick feeling returns. As he throws off his blanket and looks at his body, his fears are confirmed.

He wears a simple dress, not fancy but by no means a peasant's dress. To his horror, his body fits the clothing.

He groans with a voice definitely not his own. He should have known this would happen eventually. He's written himself into Addventure several times; it was inevitable that this would happen to him. After all, it seems to happen eventually in every thread. Still, it's a shock. So far he's been turned into a zebroid, travelled through time, been in a plane crash, temporarily died three times, and inhabited at least one other body, but never this.

He sighs and slumps back in the bed. This would take some getting used to.

Just then the door of the small room opens. He looks over and sees a young girl enter, wearing clothing similar to his own. He recognizes the face immediately. Karen!

"Hey," she says, "Wake up!"

At least, he thinks it's Karen. Her hair is longer than it was before, though, more like.. more like Alyssa's. Is this Alyssa?

"Come on, Alyssa," the girl says, "get up! We have a lot to do today."

Alyssa? He's Alyssa? He groans.

The girl -- he assumes it's Karen -- walks over to him, grabs his arm, and pulls him out of bed. His mind races, but his thoughts are blurred by the strange sensations in his body as he moves.

"Just... just a minute," he says. "I'll be out in a minute."

"Okay," Karen says, "but you'd better hurry." She lets go of his arm and leaves.

The Seeker sits down on the bed. He's Alyssa? He sighs. Why Alyssa?

He looks around the room for a mirror. Unfortunately, the room's decorations are fairly sparse. No mirror.

He looks tentatively down at his new body. Then he promptly jerks his head up. No, he's not ready to deal with that yet. He'll just -- try to clear his head first.

Hmm. Reality has obviously altered around him again. The last time he saw Karen she was fending off the villagers with him, but now... it seems as though she and Alyssa -- she and he (he groans again) -- are living peacefully, in a house in what he assumes to be the village.

In fact, Karen seems to be different herself. She has long hair now, and she wears a dress instead of armor. At the same time, though, she seems more aggressive than before, more like what he had expected. It almost seems like he's entered the original storyline, but...

Has he travelled back in time? He wonders if maybe he's entered the original storyline, but before it ever started. That would explain Karen's clothing and hair, and why they're still in the village. If so, then he obviously hasn't travelled very far back in time -- Karen isn't noticably younger -- but far enough that he's entered the storyline before Karen and Alyssa joined the New Amazons.

Then a thought strikes him. If this is before the story, then the battle must not have happened yet, and it probably won't happen for a while. Maybe he can prevent it from ever happening. He remembers the slaughter outside of the New Amazon fortress and shudders. Maybe he can save all of those lives. He's not sure how; perhaps he can convince the New Amazons to surrender, or try to find a way to reason with the King. If nothing else, perhaps he can prevent Karen and Alyssa from joining the New Amazons, and save their future peace of mind.

He realizes that, had he not become Alyssa, he probably never would have had this opportunity. Perhaps there's actually some reason behind this madness, behind him entering the New Amazon storyline, and becoming Alyssa.

Then he remembers what brought him here in the first place. He remembers that Addventure reality is unstable. He's thinking about changing the future, and the past. If he prevents the battle, then he may prevent the New Amazon storyline from ever being written. Who knows what would happen then. His reality is already fragile enough without him messing around with it.

Actually, he isn't even sure if this is the same reality as the original story. Maybe, the battle already occured, but in this reality Karen and Alyssa never joined the New Amazons. Or maybe the battle will never occur. Maybe it would be best if he waited to decide until he can learn some more about the situation.

  1. He decides to wait to decide.
