The skeletons had no means of speaking - no tongues or voice-boxes or
lungs -
and yet Fred and Astra (and perhaps Velus too) heard a voice whisper
inside their heads,
presumably projected by the skeletons' leader: "You have destroyed one of
us. Why
did you assume that we were hostile?" Fred was not sure that he bought
this - the
first skeleton had certainly looked hostile. The skeleton went
on: "Regardless
of that, I must hand over this." The figure held out a scroll of
parchment, tied with a ribbon. On the outside of the scroll was a name
written with
exquisite penmanship, presumably the work of one of the scribes:
