"Look, girl," Aaron says, "this is war. You don't worry about the lives you
take. Besides, my father..." he trails off. "My father..."
You look at him. "What?" He closes his eyes. With a rough edge in his voice he says, "We don't have time to worry about whether this is right or not. The longer we stay here and talk about it the stronger the Zendaran army will grow, and the harder it will be to defeat them. Now, will you help me?" "No," you say, mustering as much conviction as you can. "I can't go along with this. I won't take lives to avenge lives." Your voice drops to a whisper. "I've seen enough death already." He glares at you coldly. "Fine, then. You can stay here and starve, for all I care. I'm leaving." With that he storms away. You watch as he disappears into the night. Then you turn away, wondering if you've made the right choice. For several long minutes you stand there, wondering who you are, what you're doing here, why you're still alive. Eventually, though, you realize that you're not coming to any answers. You force yourself to do something, if only to keep your mind occupied.
