Rough Times

Alyssa walked hurriedly downstream from the demon infested area. All she had for protection was a dagger and sound Allarian leather armor. As a Squire, she had been trained to fight aggressively, circling an opponent, throwing rocks, dashing an enemy off a cliff, whenever possible. But then, who could fight against those... things, anyway?

Alyssa was never meant to be a fighter. She always preferred playing with girly dolls and reading romance novels. But when her parents were abducted in one of the Dragon's attacks, and theives looted the family mansion clean, fourteen year old Alyssa was forced to join the Academy to serve her country in the field. There were a lot of orphans from the war like her. Only by chance had her tender hands yet to be stained with blood.

Slowly Alyssa walked into a wooded area. Suddenly, a curious creature appeared! It was the length of a mongoose, with bushy blonde fur and a winning smile.

"Chirrr!" it said, standing up on it's hind legs.

"Aw, you're so cute!" Alyssa said, kneeling to scratch behind the critter's fuzzy ears. "Are you hungwy?"

The beast stared into Alyssa's eyes and suddenly she was mesmerized by the depth of intelligence she saw there.

"You'we a goood wodent!" Alyssa cooed.

The beast's smile seemed to grow even wider, and then it suddenly lunged at her face! Alyssa shrieked in pain as the demon mongoose clawed at her face and neck, blood spurting! This is turning out to be a great day for Alyssa.

1. Escape is impossible. Alyssa must fight the creature.
