The Quest for Uhura

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19995

McCoy

Medical Officer's Personal Log

Well, after all the excitement of a mutiny with a dash of alien mind control thrown in, the examination of the invisible alien entity was rather anticlimactic as the mages and others soon emerged with what they were looking for.

Mind you, I'm not complaining! After having been held at phasor point by my own head nurse and being thrown into the brig with the other men of the Enterprise, our fate unknown, I rather welcome it!

.....

Sigh. On a side note I'm just wondering just who I'll request to step in to fill Nurse Chapel's shoes when she soon leave to raise her as yet unborn child! She has always been there to help me and those other who've come here and she'll be missed.

At least we're parting on good terms, her and I. While I'm upset that the entity had been able to find within her feelings of being marginalized, you must understand that I sometimes don't have the best "bedside manner" with my staff, male or female. What with all the trouble this crew seems to get into sometimes, I swear that it seems like they put their common sense in supsense or something....not only on away mission but even on shore leave! Why I could tell you.....

....

Well, let us just say that I can be excused for lapses in manners in the pursuit of keeping the injured alive and well. I've lost count how many times I've had to say "He's dead, Jim" to the Captain (or a variation of that)....and I absolutely hated every time I had to do it. Can you blame a guy for getting a little abrupt with the staff in a race against death....to avoid having to say those words again and again?

Maybe I should have told her earlier, but....it's almost an unwritten rule that nurses feel...er...underappreciated by the doctors who they aid....

Nevermind. It's too late now. Will have to watch it the next time around or something....

Well, at least Chapel understands that, now.

She doesn't have any hard feelings over this, now. As for me, neither do I. After all, I'm a bit familiar with how it can be with one's mind being controlled....

Don't think I'll ever forget that deal with Landrew....

Well, back to what we have begun to call "The Search for Uhura".....

The mages had finished up with magically picking through what remained of the alien entity's mind. Oh, in the end it totally ruined what was left of it....but then again I have this....

I remember my father as he lay.....

No, at least I learned that they had come out with a cure for his condition before I made a horrible mistake and had "pulled the plug" to end his suffering. Lord knows how I'd cope with the knowledge....

Wonder if those other versions of me had to deal with something like that....and if they had made a horrible mistake....

Hrmph....

Anyway, I am glad to say that Jarlath and the other mages got what they were after and did me the favor of "pulling the plug" on the hopelessly comatose entity. That and disposing of the body. Frankly, it was not a patient I wanted to keep around for much longer, considering all the trouble it and it's friends made. Horrible for a doctor to say that, but all considered I believe I'm okay to say that.

I even get back the use of the floor that had been occupied by those runes.....

I swear, before all this business, I would have made a crack about drilling holes in people's heads to let the evil spirits out before believing that something like a "magic necklace" would cure a case of alien mind control....

  1. Anyway, back to those results....
