Fred recognized the sarcasm in Stralene's voice. "Now look here," he began, somewhat red-faced. "Men say things, we think direct and sometimes simply. My intent was to free you, for as far as I knew you were a prisoner - how did you get out anyway?"

"That doesn't matter now," interrupted Jake. "This woman is leading us away from the caves. I must return, I must retrieve some of the treasure for my King and Queen."

"And who may they be?" asked Stralene.

"I hail from the Kingdom of Kee to the west of here; I serve under King Xander and Queen Savita."

"Your lords are not far from the land of the Califs," said Fred.

"Nor the merchants of the MalBoncton," said Jake. "You two may go where you will, but I am returning to the caves." With that the young warrior turned and began to walk away.

"You won't get far with the monkey demons inhabiting this wood," said Stralene.

"Then I shall go with him," said Fred. "We are aware of the danger now, we shan't be taken by surprise again."

"Oh really?" said Stralene.

1. "Yes, really," said Fred sarcastically.
2. Suddenly Stralene lifted her arms which turned leathery and grew bat-like wings...
