The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19340

"Show us," says one of the women I haven't been properly introduced to.

Inquirer

A bit later...

"So this is it?" I say, looking about, "Rather charming spot despite the rather grim oddities of recent time, eh?"

I move on while Robin is beginning to frown at that rather flip sentence.

"We'll fix things and do what we can for you friend," I go on, smiling a comforting smile, "Suggest you stay up here, though. I believe it could be....dangerous. I know that you said that you already were going to...."

"No," he says, "I....want to come along."

Shit.

Despite him being Colin's friend I can tell that this whole situation still spooks him terribly, which was working for us. See, I had rather hoped for him to stay topside instead of mustering up the courage to come down and try to aid us. Frankly as I see it, he'd be more of a hindrance than a help. Yes, that's not a very kind assessment, but I have a knack for sizing things up like that. Comes with a the field of work I was in before coming to Terra Prime (and all that had happened down there).

Apparently, either his ego or a sense of loyalty has overcome his good senses here....

Oh, I can sympathize, but this is a damn inconvenient time for a change of heart! In addition to what I said before, I and the others rather wanted him to not witness some of what we might have to do. Don't know how we're going secretly cast spells with him watching, for Creator's sake! The elves, especially, are rather getting tired of maintaining their illusions. Oh, they (like all of us apprentices of Sigin) have comes a long way in being able to "sync up" our illusion spells with our movements to give a sense of reality to them, but it is a challenge for the four foot tall elves to maintain the illusion they have going. Wouldn't do for them to reach out and grab something, their human seeming mimicking their actions, but the object they grab be floating in space while the illusion is not holding anything.... Well, you get the idea.

I and the others try to sway the young man, but it's not happening.

Then, to make matters even more "interesting" he goes and asks something I would rather he hadn't. It also goes and shows us that he's figured something out that we'd rather he had not.

"Who are you people?" he asks, looking at us, "I know the red head is not Colin's cousin. Figured that out awhile ago and....."

Had wondered how long that fiction could last.

Any objections? I send out to the others, referring to Robin.

Getting none (especially from Ragan), a simple muttered arcane spell and the man's words cut out in midstream.

Something like that spell would never have worked on a Terra Prime native. Even the lowest peasant has some clue (or resistence).....

But then again this is my love's Earth and not Terra Prime. Magic's existence isn't really known to be real, of course.

"Boy, wonder how Colin ever got any sleep with that loud snoring!" Betty sighs.

Actually it isn't all that loud, but then again it's not unnoticeable.

Laying him out on a bench in a remote corner of the garden (making it appear he's taking just a nap), we then rush off to the pumping station door.

"Okay, let's look alive here," B'Ellana says as she drops her Seeming, "We have a bunch of anti-matter walking about down there with some serious paranoia and such who'll probably be less than thrilled to see us."

"Probably will have a bit of a problem believing we'd actually help him come back," the Doctor sighs.

Indeed, we are here to help, I send to him and the others, But above all else let us not mention anything about flutes, right?

Last time the Doctor had to face Omega, the Time Lord tricked Omega (who's made of antimatter) into handling a flute made of normal matter without any shielding....

Pardon the pun, but that particular fight ended with a bang!

  1. We don't need a repeat performance. Oh, it won't exactly happen quiet that way.....
