Chucky removed the bandages wrapped around his entire face and rubbed his
sore, swollen eyes. Even the smallest amount of light sent a shooting
pain through his head. But for the first time in weeks he finally could
see. "Be careful now, little master." Cautioned Bert's servant. "Your eyes will be sensitive for a few more weeks. I can't belive they healed so quickly! And your face is hardly scarred! Your race has a healing ability beyond my knowledge." Tiny Chucky chuckled cheerily (Say that ten times fast). "Oh, belive me! That isn't the first time I've blown up my face! It happens every season, I am quite used to it by now. Although this last one was the worst yet...""Methinks you and Bertrand are playing with fire! You meddle in the affairs of black magics and demonic powers! And look where it has gotten you! You have not even heard the news yet, eh?" Chucky's pointed ears perked up in interest. "News?"The servant nodded his head and went over to a small window which looked down onto the main street of the township of Giles. "The city of Penn has been utterly destroyed by the Southern Wyrm! It is said the cursed drake had no head! I wonder if you two have not disturbed some ancient evil in the mountains!" Chucky glared at the man's back. "Listen, I knew exactly what I was doing. It was an outside force which caused my most precious machine to explode the way it did. And belive me, whatever this evil force is, it was awakened long ago and has only been dorment. You humans are so oblivious to things sometimes. Anyways, my cousin Flucky should be here soon. He is going to take me back to my home. I have much to think over. I will not forget all you have done for me, and I will tell Bertrand of your skill and patience in the healing arts. If I ever return to 'Gilded Giles' (It was a prosperous and healthy town and boasted over thirty trading guilds) or see him again, which will hopefully be soon..."At almost the exact same time there was a loud rumbling in the ground. "He's here already!" Chuckly exclaimed. He ran outside onto the street where there was already a large crowd gathered around a small creature. There in the middle of the street lay a motionless gnome, facedown on the gravel. He appeared to have fallen from the sky for the ground around him was cracked and disturbed. A strange device was attached to his back. It was full of sprockets and wheels and spinning blades and it sputtered very loudly, disturbing the dogs of the town and sending them into a chorus of barking and howling. The gnome stood up and dusted himself off then turned off the device on his back. He wore goggles and a large brown scarf. He looked around and smiled when he saw Chucky."Chucky! DoyouhaveanykindoffuelIcoulduseformyflyingmachineImafraidImjustaboutallout. .." "My word! Calm down, cousin! I forgot how hasty of a gnome you are! All you youngens are nowadays! I'm afraid the closest thing to fuel I have for your machine is some very strong liqour, but Im sure it will work."The crowd was virtualy silent during this whole exchange. It wasn't everyday two gnomes conversed on the streets of Giles. "Liquourhuh? WellIguessthatwillworkbutlet'shurry!!"The two speedily refueled the machine's metal tank with a strong liqour and Flucky attached a rope and several other straps around his cousin. "Offwego!" ~What a hasty gnome!~ Chucky thought. He waved to Bert's servant, who watched them from the window of the geomancer's home.Flucky pulled on a rope attached to a wheel as hard as he could and sent the beastly machine to life. The sprockets and wheels began to turn the the blades began to twirl and spin, faster and faster. There was a horrible noise and one of the blades suddenly loosened and went whirling into the crowd at a disturbing speed. It went over flying a fruit cart and straight for a cow, beheading it with amazing ease and splattering blood everywhere. It didn't stop there but rather changed directions, heading straight for a group of bystanders. They dove out of the way just in time and the blade went whirling by, heedless of who or what was in it's way. The spinning blade switched directions yet again, crashing into a stone wall and smashing into twisted metal shards. "Oops. Hehe." Flucky's face turned red."You've always got to Fluck up something, don't you!?" Chucky exclaimed. "You never tighten anything good enough! Remember the loose sprocket incident last summer! You almost beheaded a whole village! Now let's get out of here before we get lynched!!!!!!" The two shot into the air, Chucky hanging several feet below his cousin. They soared along at about one hundred to two hundred feet, although at times a gust of wind would send the machine stalling and sputtering and send them whirling towards the ground. They had many close calls. The wind felt good blowing against his face as he went along, and Chucky began to think of the many tasks that lay ahead of him. What times to be alive in! They continued their flight south, towards the Shreken.
