Asking Grailing for Advice

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19095

So how has Grailing apparently been in two places at once? The explanation is the same as that for Grailing's analog on Terra Prime. Simply put, Grailing had two bodies. One was the body (called a "proxy") which he was able to send out of the Forest and use to see the world. It worked much like a magical puppet, with the added bonus that with an effort of will Grailing could teleport his proxy body back and forth from the confines of the Forest. It was a relatively ordinary-looking body, without many magical indicators showing that it is special. Indeed, in that body Grailing could not cast spells. (He could not spare the time to create a proxy body that could). The original body he was born with had been trapped within the confines of that Forest, preserved in a magical alchemical brine. This was where Grailing's seat of consciousness actually was.

When Grailing discovered that the Entity (for lack of a better name) back within the Forest had been responsible for sapping the vitality of the elven race, he was able to will his original body awake and alert, thus cutting off input to his proxy body. However, due to his overlooking something in the making of his proxy body (which was a prototype of sorts), he did not realize that when his original body died his spirit would be sucked into and placed within that proxy body. For all intents and purposes, it was like he had been re-born within that proxy body. So Grailing had succeeded in destroying the Entity, but his original body had died in the process, leaving him "marooned" in the proxy.

Events have been similar enough to those on Terra Prime for the Champions to be able to explain to Grailing why he is still alive. Once that has been done, Astra 9 says: "The reason we are here is to deliver two very important messages. We have a reason for not wanting to meet the people the messages are to be delivered to, and so we can't deliver the messages ourselves. We've explained about analogs. Well, members of our party are analogs of family members of the people we need to deliver these messages to, and our meeting them would cause them great confusion and pain. You might think that we could travel to say twenty miles away from where they are, and then hire messengers to take the messages the rest of the way, but the messengers would almost certainly pass on details of our appearance. We came to Walants because we had heard of someone totally reliable whom we believed could be persuaded to pass on the messages for us. But in view of what's happened to the city that is no longer an option....
