Apologising to a Gnome?

"Sir, I am Lord Frederigo d'Honaire of Allaria, the lady is Princess Astra
of Aqualaria, and the dog is Velus," Fred replied. "We should like to
apologise for waking you. We were following someone and thought he might
have gone through this door. Of course, we now realise that we were
mistaken." "That's quite alright, old chap," The ogre's head opened up and a small gnome jumped out and stood on the ogre's shoulders."Won't the three of you come in, and I'll make us a nice pot of tea?" The gnome saw the dazed expression on Fred's face and began to chuckle. "Not what you were expecting, was it?" He gave his ogre-like machine a pat. "This machine is part of my intricate security system. I use it to scare off the more unpleasant inhabitants of these mountains! But you look weary, please do come in and tell me your story while I make us some tea!"Fred and Astra looked at each other and shrugged. Astra lowered Fred's sword. Why not? Fred needed to rest his ankle, anyways... The three followed the gnome through the door and into a large cave. It was lit by a single large iron lamp, fueled by some unknown substance. There were pulleys hanging from the ceiling everywhere, attached to huge rusted metal wheels and sprockets above. There were two huge doors that went deeper into the ground as well as several other much smaller ones.The gnome covered his ogre-like machine with a blanket and then gave one of the pulleys a hard yank. The door leading outside was swung shut and another large door opened, which led to a tunnel. "This is my main port to the outside world." The gnome explained. "I bring larger materials and supplies through this entrance. We are a ways from my home, it is several miles through that tunnel, but I do have a small room supplied with tea and food- stuff around the corner. Please follow me."The gnome lead them through the large door and then suddenly stopped and turned around. He gave Fred and Astra a hard look, and then shuddered. His eyes widened. "You are souless!!!" He exclaimed.
