Andrea Speaks Up

"We've had some hard traveling, and Andrea is tired," Frederigo said. "She isn't used to walking long distances. The day is getting well advanced, and I think we should stay here tonight." That way he could keep tabs on the women, and still have a chance to go after Belboz once night fell and they were safely asleep. Unless it was full moon tonight, of course, which would complicate things considerably. But he was fairly sure from the look of the moon last night that it would not be full till tomorrow night at the earliest.

Astra looked dubious. Though she still did not understand the nature of her curse, or realise that it was linked to the moon, her instinct told her that she could not afford to delay. But where could she go now? As far as she had been able to ascertain from Andrea, who knew this region far better than either she or Fred did, there were no other powerful mages within many days travel. It seemed that Allarians generally distrusted such people, and as a result they were few and far between. So perhaps staying put was as good as anything. "Maybe you're right," she said reluctantly.

Andrea, being less experienced in judging phases of the moon than was Frederigo, was becoming increasingly nervous. Was the moon going to be full tonight? If so, wherever Astra was going to be, she wanted to be somewhere else. Also she was not too keen about spending the night under Belboz's roof. Who knew what dark magicks might still be lurking? She came to a decision.

1. "Astra, there's something I must tell you about your curse," she said.
2. "I don't want to stay here tonight," she said. "This place gives me the creeps. Let's move on."
