Astra felt a strange sensation, unpleasantly like being drunk (from the
perspective of a glass of water, of course). The world twisted out of
existence in front of her, went entirely black for a disturbingly long
moment, then twisted back into existence again. Astra patted herself cautiously, making sure that all her body parts were still intact. Rather surprisingly, they did appear to be. She was still wearing the strange clothes that the witch, Betty, had given her. Having ascertained the state of her physical reality, she then turned her attention to her surroundings. She was back in the underground marketplace from which the mysterious black void had sucked her, what seemed to be a lifetime ago! [4301] The was, however, no sign of Fred or Velus. She wondered what had happened to them.
As Astra faded from existence, Betty experienced a feeling of elation. Finally! I've gotten rid of at least one of them! I hope she made it back to her own reality, but, frankly, I'm just glad she's out of mine! Caused enough trouble, she has... This happiness was short-lived, however, as almost instantly she found her astral form ripped away from the comic store, plunging once again through the streets of Socorro, and homing in on Fred, who, apparently, was now holding a large group of people spellbound with tales of his heroic exploits. She sighed.
Madame Zelberta clapped her hands with glee. "It worked!" she crowed to the salesgirl, who was currently cowering behind her counter in terror. "Now, all that remains is to deal with that ghost..." She turned to where Betty's disembodied spirit had been a moment ago, but the psychic presense was gone. Instead, she felt the familiar tugging feeling once again... from back the way she had just come. She sighed and resolutely began trudging back across town.
