"I am glad these men were Zular's and not sworn under Emry," said Fred as
he turned to the ranger. "Alfred, allow Velus and I to have some time alone together." "Of course," said the old man, and he left the stable. He stood alone, a few yards from the stable, and began to cackle. He then gave a horrible sigh. The old ranger knew more than he was letting on, and indeed had been ever since Fred's initial discription of Cedrik when they had been in Mudspot: "One of the men is middle-aged, but fit and good-looking, and having a commanding presence"~Had this Dragon-Slayer from Suffex taken him for a slow-minded old crackpot!? A commanding presence? If he was amoung the company of this Aquilarian and this Dragon-Slayer than he must be an important person of some nature.~ He had thought at the time. He kept these same thoughts in mind while he searched Cedrik's room at the village inn. He found what he was looking for very quickly, and with Fred and the stranger engaged in a conversation outside the room, he had time to pocket the item before Fred could even know. The amulet that Alfredo found amoung Cedrik's armor and helm had given away his identity immediatly. Indeed, even a common peasant or serf would have recognized the item for what it was. Not even Emry possesed such a thing! But how could Cedrik have hidden the amulet if Fred had found him naked? And why would he have discarded such a valuable item? And what was Zular's role in all this? All these thoughts were on the ranger's mind as he stood, alone in the night.A shooting star shot across the sky. "A bad omen?" Alfredo said aloud. But only the singing of the crickets and the distant hoot of an owl in the forest were the night's reply.*** The little girl sat on her throne, deep in thought. Her servant, the Dragon, had been slain.~Slothful old beast!~ She thought ~Had I not ever warned him that the cold and bloody fate of many a wyrm through the dark ripples of time had been their appetite for sleep!?~ Now there was the Juradestro'zar to worry about.~She has already slain my most faithful servent in the mid-north, who knows what else she can accomplish in her condition? In this plain of reality and others after...~ The little girl had come so close to finding the Destroyer in the miserable little mining village, Dirthole, or whatever they called it. She had found the knight, and toyed with his head, but found little information from the song he sang in response to her spell. She still had fun toying with these mortals' weak minds even after all these millenia.~Finding the undead Aqualarian will not be a trouble, slaying her will be.~
