They were already far up the King's Waywhen Fred decided that he
must try for an escape. He did not know whether Alfredo would go along
with him or not, but he must try nonetheless. He was about to whisper his
intentions to the ranger when suddenly the company turned aside from the
main highway. This does not bode well Fred thought as soon as he realized what road they were now taking. This road leads to Trescent! That is Duke Zular's domain! Could he be behind this? Fred became more concerned with every step. "I say, Captain! Shouldn't we be headed for Caemlyn by way of the main highway? Unless you know of some shortcut..."The captain burst into laughter, to Fred's annoyance. "Don't you worry none, Lord D'Honaire! We'll take you where you need to go, don't you worry none." This was not the answer Fred was looking for. They continued their trek through the Allarian countryside. Fred couldn't belive the position he was in. This was hardly the heroe's welcome he had expected. What's worst, a bag was placed over Fred's head to conceal his identity. Whoever had captured him obviously didn't want anyone else in the Kingdom to know.Alfredo, too, understood the danger they were in. When the first night came since their departure from the King's Way, Alfredo crawled over to where Lord Fred lay sleeping in some hay. There were only two guards at watch in the stable they had come to, while the captain and the rest of his men slept conmfortably in the stone cottage next door. It was a dark night and the moon hid it's face. Alfredo roused Fred from his slumber. "M'lord, we are already come to the border of Duke Zular's lands! I did not speak my full mind when we were at the Boar's Head. I feared Duke Zular might be behind Cedrik's initial dissappearance, before he was to be crowned king. But the fact that Zular might have been in league with that horrible dragon is most unsettling. We must try and escape this very night!"
