Friend or Foe?

"I think not, Mistress," Astra replied back. "Belboz's chamber is behind us. Whoever this is, approaches from the left."

"Quickly, Astra, back into your lamp - I'll hide until I see who it is."

Astra wanted to point out that she could easily and invisibly check, but her mistress had given her instructions. She handed the lamp (which had been carrying for safe keeping) back to Astrid, crossed her arms, and faded into a puff of smoke, which flowed into the lamp's tiny opening.

Astrid clutched the lamp and scampered behind a large boulder. Carefully, she peered around the edge to get a better view of the approaching party. One thing was for sure - no one came to these caves for a casual stroll!

The sound got closer and closer. Finally, the newest arrival entered the rocky corridor.

1. It was Baron Dmitri the Bold, an old friend of Fred's from Allaria.
2. It was two women in battle dress. "Keep going," one of them said, "Princess Astra has to be around here somewhere."
3. It was a young man in a squire's outfit. "Sir Fred? Astra? It's me - Velus!"
4. It was - Belboz?!?
5. It was an old man, clutching an urn and muttering furiously to himself.
6. It was a young girl, dressed in a red cape and carrying a basket.
7. Astrid drew in a breath of surprise - it was the *dragon*!!!
