Charles Fort had a theory that the universe tends to provide that which is
needed. Thus, a rain of frogs, say, is simply caused by the universe, in
its own inscrutable way, somehow deciding that a particular area is sadly
lacking in the frog department and taking steps to correct this problem.
It is possible that this reality works in a similar way. Our poor dead heroine has been lamenting the lack of someone capable of seeing and hearing her, and perhaps, just perhaps, the universe has heard her. Because a sudden popping sound is heard over the park where Fred, to his shame, has so recently spent a brief period crouched in a cowardly huddle. And, lo and behold, from out of nowhere -- or possibly out of that place whence come rains of frogs -- a figure appears and crashes inelegantly to the ground. It's...
