Amok Time on the Planet....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 17983

He trails off as we see that somebody appears to have approached Leebig already....and Leebig isn't liking it at all!

A hand reaches out from behind a high walled fence that Leebig is situated next to as he desperately tries to yet again revive one of his robot servants.

At first what I'm witnessing just....strikes me as about as insane.

Takes me back to that time in my implanted memories of that one time, so long ago, when the Voyager and her entire crew got teleported back to 20th century Earth (told within that one TV episode of Star Trek: Voyager, "Future's End") In the course of things the shuttlecraft Commander Chakotay and the B'Elanna Torres who's memories I have were abducted by members of a cult/militia. One of the members, buggy as can be, had insulted me and Chakotay while asking about our "aircraft" (had taken a lot for B'Elanna to not quip to that nut about an "Injun" being what drives a car, and not Commander Chakotay).

Can't see the person grabbing the now screaming Leebig, but my elfin senses (those eldritch ones I'm still getting used to) tell me that whoever's doing it is nearly as desperate as that nut I have memories of, so long ago.

As we race down the hillside, the screaming abruptly cuts of as the sound of a fist hitting a jaw is heard by my elfin ears. My elfin eyes see some kind of black capsule (cynide based, I believe Inquirer told me) come flying out from behind the wall. Whoever just mugged Leebig was able to neutralize him before the panicky man could kill himself with it!

"He's alive," Elrondir, my love, shouts as we elves (the fastest runners of the group despite our small size) reach the crime scene first.

Despite being sprawled out amongst a small pile of junk that the mugger apparently discarded quickly as he rifled through Leebig's pockets, the man's chest is still rising and falling and my ears can hear the slight rasp of his breath.

Judging from the mess that that mugger's fist has made of Leebig's jaw, I'd say that the phobic robotologist's jaw is shattered!

That speaks of incredible strength....that's well above human norms. Almost like the strength a desperate Kligon, really....

But before I go and try to play scout (maybe utilizing my elfin senses, including my sense of smell) to try to cipher out the identity of the mugger, I better take care of Leebig.

So as a hovercraft goes speeding off into the distance (I guess that the mugger mugged Leebig for the vehicles keys) and the others come running up, we begin to tend to Leebig's injuries.

See, this being reality and such, there is a chance (small though it is) that Leebig could slip into shock (and then death).

We've come to bring him to justice, not watch him die.

Whoever the mugger was will have to be found and taken care of by the authorities of this world. But I have small hopes for that, really.

See, the way Inquirer and the others have described this world, the ones who enforce the law probably will be a bit lost. Crime, I'm told, is rare on the world, and I'm told that the one's who would have investigate the murder we prevented.....are basically incompetent. That's why, in the book, Baley's talents were tapped.

Now I'm "streetwise" enough to know that in these trying, chaotic times on this world (what with the robot problems) might bring the ordinary, law abiding folks to do awful things in desperation. That said, I'm not so sure that the authorities really ever thought such a day would dawn on their fair world where they'd have their own running amok, as apparently was the case here.

Elrondir

For a second B'Elanna looks like she's going to halt and look around for clues, but decides instead to aid with Leebig.

Man doesn't deserve it, but I and the others agreed that it's better that the authorities take care of Leebig than we play vigilante.....or just let him die from his injuries.

Much later....

  1. We are now all back together and have managed a few things....
