The Never Ending Quest - Episode 17902

Jarlath was very relieved somehow. "Look," he said, holding his hand up. "We can affect things after all."

Fred and Astra didn't say anything, but they seemed relieved as well. The wharf had vanished from sight now, lost in the mists. Jarlath looked down into the water and saw that the strange, colorful fishes were converging on the boat. There was a murmuring all around him, which grew louder every moment.

"Jarlath!" a voice suddenly cried out. It was strong, yet astoundingly ancient. He looked around him, and saw no one. Fred and Astra didn't seem to have noticed it.

"Who?" whispered Jarlath. He suddenly realized that the fishes had said it. They were staring up at him from the water with glowing white eyes.

"O boy who walks in fire," they said, "beware the City of Ghosts and Shadows, for in that city you will find only lies and death. Go instead to the Tower of Broken Glass. There you will find the answers you seek." With that, the fishes' eyes stopped glowing, and they swam away from the raft.

"What was that?" asked Fred, worriedly.

"I don't know," said Jarlath. "But those fish seem to have noticed us." He wanted to tell Fred and Astra about the fishes' strange comment, but he somehow couldn't. He felt somehow that it was intensely private, and not meant for their ears to hear.

  1. Eventually, they saw that someone on the bank was trying to attract their attention. Jarlath noticed that this person did not seem to emanate magic like everything else here.
