"Listen, Ted, now really isn't the time," said Chris, a desperate note in
his voice. "Stacy's not well. She's got a... brain condition." Brain condition? Stacy wondered just exactly what this amnesia problem of hers entailed, and what it was caused by. Did she have a brain tumor or something? Her stomach lurched, but she quickly regained control of her panic. "Stress is very bad for her," Chris was continuing. "She doesn't need to deal with this now, so why don't you just go away!" He sounded more than a little hysterical, Stacy thought. And she was the one who was supposed to have a problem with stress? Ted's face crumpled, and he almost looked like he was about to cry. Stacy's sympathy immediately went out to him. He seemed genuinely distressed by the thought that he might be hurting her. Chris, on the other hand... Chris looked worried, but somehow she didn't get the feeling that it was for her. "I feel just fine," she snapped. "Come on in, Ted." Chris stepped back and let Ted in, apparently resigned to losing this battle. Ted sat nervously down on the sofa. "First of all, I just wanted you to know that I'm really, really sorry..." "Hey!" Chris interrupted far too brightly. "Do you want some tea?"
