A Simplified and Not Exactly Accurate Account

Paula and Stacy exchanged an uncomfortable look, but, despite her words, it seemed that the woman did believe their story. Well, Stacy thought, it was probably more plausible than the full truth!

"I suppose," the woman continued, "You'll be wanting to contact this Dr. Steinbeck to let him know what's happened to you, and your families to let them know you're all right. You can use my phone."

"Yes," said Dr. Burke. "Thank you. I'll want to call Dr. Steinbeck right away."

"No!" Stacy blurted out. Burke and the woman looked at her. "I mean, uh, we really don't need to call him just yet, do we? Maybe we should rest for a while first or something." It sounded rather lame to her even as she said it. But she had the distinct feeling that the aliens would not be pleased if Burke called up his superiors and told them the whole story, or at least the part of it that he knew about. And, of course, Stacy and Paula had assaulted the man. They could be in real trouble here...

1. But Burke was insistent...
2. Strangely, Burke seemed willing to let the issue go. And he didn't correct Paula's version of the story, either.
