The young lad appears to be working very hard to change Lord Frederigo back to his/her former self. They work together for long hours, and Charlie explains each step in what he is doing.
Although the former knight doesn't really understand the explanations, he/she appreciates the trouble the youth is going to and helps out in any way possible. Gradually an unlikely bond develops between the two.
