Betty honestly didn't know why she was doing this. She simply felt in need
of some... closure. Yes, that was it. Closure. She'd take this insane
woman her towel and tell her never, ever to call again, and then it would
all be over and she could get on with her life. Right? Right? Well,
that's what she was trying to convince herself of, anyway. She took the turnoff at T or C as Stacy had described, and... Well, I'll be damned. She hadn't really believed it, but there in front of her was a huge, emerald-colored gate. It was standing open, so, feeling utterly bemused, she drove on through, down the dusty road and through the woods. Soon the mansion Stacy had described hove into view. She was so intent on the mansion and the answers (or at least the closure) that she hoped awaited her inside that she almost didn't see Stacy. Which took some doing, really, as the giant iron cage Stacy was locked in would have been rather hard to miss. Betty pulled over next to the cage, got out, and looked at Stacy quizzically. "Hi," said Stacy. "Glad you came. It looks like I need help now more than ever." "Uh-huh," said Betty, still staring. "Apparently I broke Jude's law, and Judge Reinhold had me locked up in Nicolas' cage," Stacy said, as if that explained something. "Oh, I get it," said Betty, with a look that said she didn't actually get it at all. "So, let's see, I guess you'll need Daniel's keys to get you out?" "Huh?" "Daniel Keyes! Author of 'Flowers for Algernon!' Doesn't anybody read any more?"
