Forty talents of gold was a lot of money. It was becoming clear to Sarah
that Douglass was not going to marry her. She would be left without
anyone, without the jewelery and liesure that went with the life of a
courtier. She would have nothing. But forty talents, if dark men could
be trusted, would buy everything. "Meet me here, near my room, tomorrow with the money," Sarah had told the man. Now it was only a case of getting the dragon. The men discussed the dragon more the next day. Some thought that it might be taught to fight for them. Many of the older thought it should die then and there. The younger desired to wait. In the end, they did wait, simply because there was no consensus. No dinner party greeted them that night. Douglass took the french maid serving him dessert back to his room for more sweets. Again, Sarah became infuriated. Another guy became fresh with her, but she turned away abruptly. She went steathily to Douglass' door and entered. Douglass was busy doing the maid doggy style. He did not notice Sarah. Sarah was about to grab the cage with the dragon in it and walk out when she noticed some jewels laying about on the couter a little further down.
