It was fortunate that you caused me to divert from my quest, because otherwise I should not have stumbled on this, and it might have been a long time before anyone got word to the King concerning what is going on."

"That's the most you have ever said to me," Diana observed. "So have you managed to work out which way they went?"

1. "Yes. Up the dirt road - more of a cart track really - that we would have followed ourselves. We will have to go cross-country instead."
2. "Yes. A different direction from ours, fortunately."
3. "No. The earth is too hard and dry, so they have left no prints. And I couldn't even find any snapped twigs."
