A Fierce Argument

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 16949

And as the vile dragon sped towards the Goth Mountains, Synizn poured himself another drink. He had already had enough to make an ordinary man unconscious, but Snyizn was of course very far from being an ordinary man. He was no more than slightly drunk.

As often happened when he was slightly drunk, he was having an argument with himself. "Stupid, stupid, stupid! If you are too afraid to use the Crystallic, why the *#!# did you run the risk of stealing the bloody thing?" "You know perfectly well: to stop Moreau getting her hands on it. She is quite dangerous enough already, without the aid of the Crystallic." "But she's bound to find out that you've got it. Ringroot's people will know that only you could have taken it. Word is sure to reach Moreau's spies before long. You may be a powerful mage by human standards, but you must know that as a werebear you have no chance against a Great Wyrm. And she is unlikely to be the only one who is after the bauble, merely the most dangerous. Your only chance is to use the thing before anyone can make a move against you. First restore yourself to your rightful form, and then use it to destroy Moreau."

For a long moment Synizn looked at the Crystallic where it stood on a nearby table, his face filled with a mixture of longing and fear. Then he sighed.

  1. "Behind me, Tempter," he said, and walked out of the room.
  2. He picked up the Crystallic, felt it cool in his hand, and then attempted what he knew would be potentially the most dangerous spell he would ever cast.
  3. Meanwhile...
  4. Synizn continues his inner fight
