As they continued their journey back towards Allaria Fred pondered all
that had occurred since his accepting the mantel of Dragon-Hunter. This
last part of his journey was the most incredible. "You know," he said to
Astra. "They're never going to believe me."
"Eh?" "My people, my Family, my Leige," continued Fred. "This is much too amazing to be believable! Even being with you - the Princess Royal Astra Thesamar, Daughter of Heliastra Queen of Aqualaria - why, our peoples have not talked with each other in over four generations!" "Life and death can bring new relationships," said Astra. "I would have died at the claws of that miserable monster if it wasn't for you. I am in your debt. You are a strange man, that is for sure... but you have an honor that surpasses the weakness of your manliness." "Uh, thanks... I think." "Don't be offended every time I compliment you! Since the days of the Assault when you were all a Scattered People [cf 15163] there have been troubles between us. How many generations must pass before you realize that we of Aqualaria are not your enemy?" "Now, wait a minute..." said Fred. "It wasn't us who closed the borders, it wasn't us who placed some kind of magic upon the seas..." "Nor was it our people! Our border is closed by the presence of the Shreken and its multitude of inferior Races and Kindes and Thinges. As to the Sea, well no one in our lands can control the wind and wave and the monsters that live therein." "Tell that to Duke Barnabas," replied Fred. "Who?" "Never mind." Astra looked at Fred with some confusion and then added: "Perhaps one day our misunderstandings shall give way to the truth. And on that day I do hope to see you in the place where you belong. In the mean time, when we get bak to your lands I think that all you need do is show them your hand trick."
