"Well," said the mage, "THAT is obvious. I thought you were smarter than
that. The reason I am in this hut is simply to keep away from all the
idiots wanting the help of a wizard to defeat the dragon. I have much
more important things on my mind than keeping a few stupid villagers from
getting themselves turned into animals."
"Wait a moment," interrupted Sir Fred, "Would you be a bit more willing to
cooperate if I told you that I was willed my parents' fortune when they
died, and that I have a good bit with me right now that I would be willing
to give to a sorcerer who would sell some magical aids for my quest?"
Sir Fred dumped a sack of gold coins on the table in front of him. Greed
flickered in the wizard's eyes as he turned to a cabinet to remove his
wares.
"Hmmm, how about something like these? I think objects such as these
would be useful for a knight wishing to slay a dragon," the warlock
replied through a hardly supressed smile.
