Lord Fred looks about for the owners of the chest. At first glance he
sees no one. Then, he spots a shadow cast against the far wall. Drawing
his sword, he approaches the spot where he saw the shadow. His footing is
poor, and he nearly falls into the water. When he reaches the crevice, he
quickly turns and points his sword at his adversary.
She gasps. Though he cannot quite see her, Lord Fred is relieved both
that it is a woman and that she has gasped. Most women of this era are
not trained well in martial affairs, and those who gasp are likely not
foul adversaries.
Nevertheless, Lord Fred remains alert. He pulls her out of her hiding
spot. She is trembling and crying. When he pulls her to the light, she
falls upon her knees.
"Please, do not kill me!" are her first words. She sobs further. She
must be a little younger than Lord Fred, perhaps around 20. She is
beautiful to behold, with golden hair. Her dress is fancy, but well-worn
and dirty all along the bottom.
She looks up at Lord Fred and gasps again. Fred looks down, trying to be
both gentlemenly, but stern. "Ah! The crest!" she exclaims, "you must
work for my father! I have escaped the dragon!"
Fred hears movement down the passageway.
