"Aye M'Lady, there be eleven men to the east of us in Talon's Plain.
They're wearing chain mail and leather studs. Their cloaks are dusted but
not crusted with mud... they're fresh. And they carry no standard."
Rowena did not like the news. Any true House wore their colors with pride; they displayed their crest with honor. The guilds did the same with their insignia. Rowena knew that only farmers, traders and woodsmen went without markings, yet the description of these armored men fitted mercenaries, bandits or worse. "We ride to Lyndons Wood," ordered Rowena. "But Lady," objected Edgar. "We need to leave these woods and head across the hills to get there. Whoever they are, they'll spy us before we make a mile." "Don't question me," retorted Rowena. "My father taught me more of strategy than yours taught you of caring for horses."
