That was discreet?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 15395

'Well, maybe this isn't the MOST subtle of approaches... but I'll eat my shorts if it doesn't get their attention,' you snicker to yourself as you make your way down to the position you're sure will be the best spot for this little trick.

As you make your way down, the debate in the Town Meeting is still going on, but you glance back and notice some people are glancing back in the direction of the Star Fleeters, and doing a double take before muttering things like: "Naw, that can't be Kate Mulgrew and the cast of the the TV show Star Trek: Voyager!"

The Star Fleeters, meanwhile, are at least aware enough of the glances to move back further into the shadows... delaying any further glances.

Sam Macy is winding down: "... It's worse than Bosnia!"

There is again a murmur of agreement with Macy amongst the crowd, louder than last time. A beautiful and deer graceful blond woman - Swindapa - of the Earth People, recently rescued from the savage Iraiina (a.k.a. the Sun People) by the captain of the Eagle, Marian Alston, raises her hand to speak and stands as Jared Cofflin, Chief Executive of Nantucket, points his gavel at her.

"My people are not savages like the Iraiina," she stated simply in the lilting, singsong accent her birth tongue gave her English. "They came to take our land for no better reason than they want it, and to make us slaves because they would rather take our crops than to work to grow their own. We don't ask them to walk the stars with Moon Woman. All we want is that the Sun People leave us ALONE."

Swindapa then sits, and is about to cross her arms as she remembers the repeated beatings and... rapes... she suffered at the hands of her captors... when she looks over in your direction as you are literally jumping up and down... waving you arms around like mad trying to be the next person called. Pamela Lisketter is holding up her hand and is halfway out of her seat, ready to deliver yet another impassioned (and annoying) speech about how Nantucket should be doing things (more spiritual nature and all that... ignoring the basics needed for survival...) when Jared Cofflin speaks.

"Sir... what in the He... heck are you doing?" he asks, halfway puzzled, and halfway grateful at the confused and angered look you cause Lisketter gets at being passed over.

"Thanks," you say as you stop. "But to really make this clear..."

<That's the cue... and at least he stopped the chatter from Lisketter long enough for a word an inchwise,>Janeway smiles to herself as... EVERY electric light in Nantucket turns on... despite the fact that 95% of the electrical power grid had been deactivated for quiet some time (So much better to make the limited supply of gas and diesel last longer... or emergencies).

Nantucket had a wind farm that generated electricity... but it was only 5% of normal 20th century usage... now reserved for the emergency clinic and such....not for private use.

A babble of confusion and surprise grows to a mild roar and dozens of people are shouting questions at you. It gets worse when it's quickly discovered that the entire town is again... for now... electrified. You give Chief Cofflin a pained look, and he roars for the room to be quiet... so at least you can answer a question.

"Now, I am a Representative of a group who can help with a few things," you say. "Things that can't solve everything....due to some difficulties they're having. One thing that they DID say they could do... is take care of a bit of a plague that was inadvertently started through nobody's fault."

"And they need to do it with machine, Lisketter... so no more of this 'freeing ourselves from the tyranny of the machine'" you growl under your breath so Pamela, but only Pamela Lisketter, can hear. "And I know of a guy who had gotten dragged behind a sailboat in this one story... a real page turner! And the hell of it was was that the guy got dragged because he had attempted to rape a fellow crew member! Perhaps... you've heard of this tale? At least in part?"

Pamela looks at you in shock, and then over at a young man who looks out of sorts at the turn of events.

"That... b*****d," you hear her say, turning a deep shade of red. She then blinks, and looks back at you in surprise, and looks like she wants to ask how you knew about what Lt. William Walker had told her (in part... if not in whole). You mouth: "Ask around, for once!" before again addressing the audience.

You...

  1. Arrange a meeting with the Town representatives and yourselves (that way to better get them together for a quickie beam out... to the Voyager).
