Suddenly, Chris chuckled. "God, Stacy, you're so stupid! And gullible... It's a wonder you were ever picked for this mission. Of course we're sending you back to Orion for re-training. Unfortunately, whatever your mental capacities, we can't afford to waste an agent of your abilities."

What abilities? Stacy wondered, dazedly. But Chris was continuing. "I'm going to stun you, and 'Fred' here is going to take your place long enough for 'you' to quit this job and take off for, oh, Los Angeles, perhaps. He may not be able to do a convincing in-person impression of you for long, but the occasional phone call or postcard from sunny California should allay suspicion nicely, don't you think? And once you've been re-educated, we can either bring you back here or assign you elsewhere. Quite a nice solution to the problem, hmm?"

Stacy, who was simply finding this all too much to take in, merely stood there gaping at the woman (or alien, or whatever she was).

"Now," said Chris, smiling unpleasantly. "Is that enough explanation for you? Anything else to say before we stun you? No? Good!"

1. And she pulled the trigger.
2. "But wait!" Stacy shouted again. Amazingly enough, Chris waited.
