Unfortunately Betty-2 turned out not to have any immunity to one
effect of
the device: that of being clubbed on
the head with it. It was solidly built, and she slumped unconscious to the
ground.
"You brute!" said
Melissa to the Master in an accusing tone. The latter was of course
unmoved. "She'll be
fine," she said, "but if one of you doesn't believe me and wants to check
for a pulse,
then I have no objection.
Just bear in mind that, though the changed settings may no longer be
optimal for
humans - or do I mean pessimal? - I shall use the device on the Doctor if
any of
you gives me any more trouble."
Betty-1 bent over her "sister". A nasty bruise was forming on Betty-2's forehead, but her breathing was strong and regular. "She'll be OK," she said. The Master ignored her. Instead she said to the Rani: "You said this was only a prototype, and that there was one thing you needed for the production model. [13323] And it's something that can only be obtained on this planet? What might that be?"
