All Wrong!

"And so we send our dear daughter, Astra, now that she has come of age, to vanquish the most terrible dragon of the Northern Caves. For years the dragon has tormented our people. Burned our fields, taken our children, and been an all around mean dragon.

"Daughter, take this map. Use it to locate the entrance to the dragon's lair at the Northern Caves. May our gods be with you on your quest."

So she must be eighteen now, Astra realised, for that was when Aqualarians were considered to come of age. All those of noble rank had to carry out a quest shortly after celebrating their eighteenth birthday, to prove their worth. But her own original quest had not been to vanquish the dragon, but to deal with a highwayman who had been robbing travellers. She had not been thought ready to take on the dragon till four years later.

1. Astra said: "But this is all wrong! It wasn't like this."
2. Realising that she would never be believed if she objected, but would be thought a coward, Astra took the map, kissed her father on the cheek, and left on her quest.
