"Really?" said Stacy. "I'm glad, because things are making less and less
sense to me."
"You said you tested your drug on yourself. How sure are you of
that?" "Well, I know I tested
the drug on some rats, and then on some human subjects. They all lost
their memories, and
I've lost my memory, so the conclusion is fairly obvious."
"But testing it on yourself seems a strange thing to do, when you already had some human subjects." "Not necessarily. I could monitor the effects on myself better than I could monitor the effects on them. Or maybe I was only able to get other subjects after I'd already tested it on myself." "I suppose so. I just have the idea, and perhaps I'm being overly suspicious here, that someone could have administered the drug to you without your knowledge." "No, impossible. I'm not aware that anybody else had access to the drug. More importantly, apparently I told Ed Campbell - he's a reporter with the New York Times who wrote an article about my work - that I had been one of the subjects. [8343] Besides, why should anyone want to? Nobody knew that it would have the side-effect of amnesia, and why would anyone want to give me amnesia anyway?"
