The man - Prince Samuel? - had hurridly pulled on some clothes. He was
darkly handsome,
but Rebecca thought that there was a hard, cruel look to him. Was she
really married to
this man? Did she love him? She felt rather as though she had taken an
instant dislike
to him.
"Rebecca, what the Hell are you playing at?" Samuel demanded. "If you think..." Then he seemed to notice the guard for the first time, and thought better of whatever he had been about to say. "I'll look after my wife now," he said. "You may go." The guard hesitated for a brief moment, then thought better of whatever he had been going to say. "Yes, Your Highness," he said, and turned and marched away up the corridor. Rebecca clutched her sheet tighter around her, and did her best to look haughtily at - she supposed it must be - her husband. When the guard was safely out of earshot, Samuel said: "Look, Becca, I know it was an arranged marriage, and you don't love me, but you will give my people the impression that you are my adoring spouse if you know what's good for you - and for your family too. That means that you do not get out of bed in the middle of the night and go wandering around the palace clad only in a sheet. Now come back to bed.
