Having looked at the other outfits with some distate, Fred was relieved
when
he found the suit of armour. It was true that, judging by its curves, it
was
designed to be worn by a woman. But Fred had no illusions now over what he
would
find when he discarded his current attire. Rather self-consciously, for he
was aware
of being under surveillance, he stripped. His (or her) body was indeed now
that of a
woman. He put on the undergarments that went with the armour to prevent
chafing
(no-one - whether male or female - could wear armour without such
undergarments),
and then (s)he donned the suit of armour itself. It was a perfect fit.
"You're so boringly predictable, Lady Fred," the voice said. "But I gave you a choice, so I will abide by it." "Who are you, and why have you done this to me?" Fred cried out in frustration. "I was once a beautiful maiden, but when I turned down the offer of marriage from a powerful wizard he turned me into an ugly man as an act of revenge. I resolved to seek my revenge in turn, but on all men. So I studied the arts of magic, and became a great wizard myself. Now, whenever a man falls into my clutches, I turn him into a woman." Fred realised that, whether or not this story was true, she must be dealing with a madman - and a very dangerous one. So she attempted to adopt a more conciliatory tone as she said: "So what happens to me now?"
