Taken by surprise, Shen Tso found herself sliding down the chute head
first. It was
too steep, and the rock surface too smooth, for her to have any chance of
arresting
her descent. Another obstacle in the obstacle course, she thought
to herself.
She slid downwards through pitch blackness for perhaps two minutes. She must have descended several hundred feet by now, she thought. Then the chute suddenly steepened, and for a brief moment she found herself falling through thin air.
