My armour is getting bigger! Shen Tso thought. Then she realised that it was far more likely that she herself was shrinking, which of course was even worse. There must be something magical about the water in which she was swimming. She was either getting younger - and hence smaller - or else she was shrinking but otherwise remaining the same. She could not examine herself whilst she was swimming across the lake, so did not know which.

It was lucky that she was nearly across, she thought, for as she got smaller the armour was becoming more and more difficult to swim in. When she reached the far side, she would have to discard it. Even her sword was going to be so big, relatively speaking, that she might struggle to wield it.

  1. She failed to reach the far side. It turned out that she wasn't just shrinking but was turning into a fish!
  2. She reached the far side, and removed her armour. The vest beneath it now reached her knees. She was only three feet tall but still an adult.
  3. She reached the far side, and removed her armour. The vest beneath it now reached her knees. She had the body of a child of six or so.
