A Meddlesome Interloper

"I wasn't hungry," said the portly man who'd interrupted them. "I thought I'd get some extra work done while there were fewer people in the way. Now, tell me, just what does your assistant think she's doing?"

"I wasn't doing anything," Stacy said guiltily.

"Nonsense, girl." Stacy bristled at being called "girl," but said nothing. "I saw you fiddling with those controls. Do you have any idea of the scientific value of this machine? Do you have any idea how dangerous it could be to tamper with it? I'm calling security right now!"

"No!" blurted Paula. "You don't have to do that. I think she's learned her lesson. Right Stacy?"

"Right," said Stacy, trying to look contrite.

"You know, I'm not sure she's even supposed to be here," said Burke. He raised his voice suddenly. "Security! Security! In here! Security!"

Paula and Stacy both swore.

1. Two security guards burst in.
2. Stacy suddenly began punching buttons. "Right, that's it! We're taking off!"
3. But nobody showed up. Presumably the secuirty guards were off eating their own lunch.
