"Replaced? What do you mean: 'replaced'?" Stacy asked. "It's too late to
pretend you're still amnesiac. Or maybe your recovery of memory really
is only partial. It doesn't really matter. You're going to be
replaced, either way. But in case you really don't remember, it won't
hurt to satisfy your curiosity. You see, unlike your friends Jerry and
Tina, you were originally one of us, but recently you were... 'turned' I
think is the word they use in the spy novels. Hence the need for you to
lose your memory at the same time as we moved against the other two.
"Another 'accident' might well look suspicious, and it seems as though the amnesia treatment may not work very well on you. So the best thing to do is to send you home, where you can be re-educated. We will replace you by another agent, since when you went across to the other side it left us rather short-handed."
